Paul Mickey Learning Series presented by Jenny Barker
Between 1820 and 1850, women typically migrated to Illinois from New England and the Upper South as members of families. Without access to most professions, lines of credit, or political rights, unmarried women rarely had the means to seek opportunities in the West. Yet a handful of educated, single women answered calls for teachers. The networks and institutions they created shaped communities throughout the state and laid the foundations for the women's right movements.
Each month, the Paul Mickey Learning Series features a different speaker and topic in the Auditorium at the Illinois State Museum. For additional information, please contact email@example.com or (217) 558-6696.
