- Dickson Mounds, Lewistown
Blues Guitarist and harmonica player John Stano will be the featured performer at the Hickory Ridge Concert Series at the Dickson Mounds Museum. Stano is an award winning singer songwriter who is also known for his excellent renditions of old country and urban blues, frequently on unusual or vintage instruments.
John Stano’s sound is a distinctive blend of acoustic and slide guitar, harmonica and expressive vocals can be described as a combination of folk, blues and Americana. ‘Sing Out’ compared John’s music to early Bob Dylan while ‘Dirty Linen’ was reminded of Country Joe McDonald.
A skillful use of language adds an original spark to his lyrics. John performs his own arrangements of folk and country blues classics by artists such as Robert Johnson and Mississippi John Hurt and Bukka White. He was nominated for a 2016 Wisconsin Area Music Industry award (WAMI) in the Folk/Celtic category, and the 2015 WAMI Singer Songwriter of the Year award and has won the Wisconsin Singer Songwriters Series Songwriter of the Year award. Two of his songs, ’From A Rusty Cadillac’ and ‘Pontiac’s No More’ were featured on NPR’s ‘Car Talk.
