Families may enjoy exploring, discovering, and learning in the natural world at this fishing event on Sunday, June 21, at Banner Marsh State Fish & Wildlife Area! Activities will include bank fishing and the opportunity to learn about proper fishing etiquette and different fish species. Participants may also enjoy learning how to paddle a Voyageur Canoe.
Everyone may fish for free and without a license during the event. A limited amount of fishing poles and tackle will be available on a first come, first served basis for use during the event. Participants may bring their own fishing gear, blankets, lawn/camping chairs, and sunscreen and should dress appropriately for this outdoor activity. Light refreshments will also be available.
The event will be held Sunday, June 21, 2020, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Main Entrance of Banner Marsh SFWA, Johnson Lake, off of Route U.S. 24. Registration is not required. Admission is free; donations are greatly appreciated.
The Family Fishing Event is co-hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois State Museum-Dickson Mounds, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services-Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge.
