Lewistown, IL – The Illinois State Museum—Dickson Mounds will celebrate its return to full operation at a Summer Gathering on Saturday, July 9, 2016 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
At 1 p.m. Dr. Michael Wiant, Interim Director of the Illinois State Museum, will welcome visitors in the Museum’s auditorium, which will be followed by a brief program that highlights new exhibits, recent research, and future plans. Among the highlights of the program: an introduction to the new American Settlement exhibit, the premier showing of the Emiquon exhibit video produced by WTVP, the premier showing of short videos on the American Settlement exhibit and Dickson Mounds, a brief report on Alan Harn’s new monograph on Dickson Mounds, and recent discoveries at the Morton site. Refreshments will be served following the presentation and Museum staff and guest curators will be available throughout the Museum to welcome visitors until 3 p.m.
The Illinois State Museum - Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day.
