In celebration of Earth Day, pick-up and plant a free native Illinois tree seedling in your own yard as part of a community-wide event. Information about each species will also be provided. Families are encouraged to take a photograph with their newly planted seedling and share it on our Facebook page at Illinois State Museum-Dickson Mounds.
Seedlings are from the Mason State Tree Nursery, Illinois' only state nursery, located in Topeka. Everything produced at the nursery is Native Illinois Eco-type, free of Neonicotinoid Pesticides. Online ordering for seedlings and native plants is now available at https://dnr2.illinois.gov/masonstatenursery
When picking up the seedlings, participants are encouraged to bring their own newspaper and plastic sack to wrap and transport their seedling. It is best to promptly plant the seedling.
