Museum Store Volunteers
The Illinois State Museum is excited to open a new Museum Store late this fall. Construction will begin soon, and then there will be a brief amount of time to get the store stocked before opening. At present, the Museum is seeking volunteers to assist staff in getting the retail space ready for customers. Volunteer duties may include assembling fixtures and unpacking, tagging, and organizing items. Volunteers should be organized, detail-oriented, and able to follow written and oral instructions. The volunteer assignment takes place from mid-September through early November. Shifts can be flexible during the Museum's weekday business hours, Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Play Museum Facilitators
The Mary Ann Maclean Play Museum is a hands-on children's gallery that encourages children to explore museum work through play. Facilitators are needed to welcome visitors, set expectations for fun, interact with guests, and keep the exhibit tidy. Volunteers should enjoy working with the public, especially children, have a customer-service mindset, and be able to work independently. Training is provided. Play Museum Facilitators are asked to commit to at least two, three-hour shifts per month for six months or twelve shifts over shorter time period if preferred. Shifts are available Wednesday through Saturday between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. A background check is required for this position.
