Dickson Mounds, an important archaeological site in Fulton County of the central Illinois Valley, was used as a cemetery by local Late Woodland and Mississippian Indian groups around 1,000 years ago. Over a period of four centuries these peoples of central Illinois buried some 3,000 of their dead in this location. This volume presents a new look at cultural change and continuity in a late-prehistoric cemetery, and includes a history of the early excavations, inventory of burials and artifacts, and analysis of diseases and injuries incurred by the early inhabitants
