PUBLIC NOTICE: The Illinois State Museum-Dickson Mounds is once again open to visitors. There are some changes we want you to be aware of before your visit.
To promote the safety of our visitors, and in compliance with State guidelines, all visitors (over age two who can medically tolerate a mask) are required to wear a face covering at all times. All masks must be made from a solid material, preferably with more than one layer, and cannot have exhalation valves or vents. All visitors will have their temperature taken (contactless) and answer a few health questions before entry.
The Museum is operating at 25% of normal occupancy and is asking visitors to stay no more than 2 hours. Regular and rigorous cleaning protocols have been put in place. The Museum Discovery Center and audio-visual programs remain temporarily closed.
At this time, we are not accepting reservations for groups of more than ten visitors. All in-person special events and programs inside the Museum have been canceled. A few special events are planned for the museum grounds. You can connect with our ISM family by following us on Facebook. You may also visit our ISM Newsroom for updates regarding museum activities.
The Dickson Mounds Museum, a branch of the Illinois State Museum and a National Register Historic Site, is one of the major on-site archaeological museums in the United States. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the world of the American Indian in an awe inspiring journey through 12,000 years of human experience in the Illinois River Valley.
Hours: Tue-Sat: 10-4:00
Closed: New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
