Please note: The Illinois State Museum has temporarily closed its second-floor archaeology exhibitions at its Dickson Mounds Museum in Lewistown, Illinois. All other aspects of Dickson Mounds’ exhibitions, programs, and grounds remain open and active. ISM-Dickson Mounds,  a branch of the Illinois State Museum and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of the major on-site archaeological museums in the United States. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the world of the American Indian in an awe-inspiring journey through 12,000 years of human experience in the Illinois River Valley.
