State Street Scavenger Hunt featuring Maggie Capettini

Artist Maggie Capettini beneficiary of a National Endowment for the Arts "Our Town" has created a new body of work on display at the Gaylord Building. (200 W. 8th Street)  Parcipants are welcome to win an original painting created by the artist by matching the paintings on display with the addresses along State Street in downtown Lockport.  Pick up a form at the Gaylord Building. match the artwork with the address then bring your form to ISM Lockport at the Norton Building (201 W.

Lockport Poetry Project featuring Sam Love

Poet Sam Love from Gary Indiana is conducting several readings and workshops all summer long throughout Lockport culminating in two events at the Illinois State Museum.  The Lockport poetry Project is an inviatation for you to contribute to his writing prompts to creat one long format poem.

Sam Love is receiving funding from an "Our Town" Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.  The grant was awarded to our campus partners, The Gaylord Building, A Site of The National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Stop in to the museum during normal hours, and contribute a verse.


Highlights from the Illinois State Museum Permanent Collection and James R. Thompson Center-Chicago.  The paintings are large in scale and in stature.  Featuring work from the following artists.  Barbara Rossi, Karl Wirsum, John Spear, Rodney Carswell, Judith Geichman, Ray Yoshida, Roger Brown, Ed Paschke, Jerry Foley, Gladys Nillson, Michiko itatani, Ted Halkin


As the Illinois State Museum in Lockport has one of the last functioning fax machines on the planet, we put a call for artists to fax us an artwork.  The only requirement being that it arrives via our fax machine.  Faxes were received from around the globe creating a kalaidascope of imagery, expression, style and idea.
