Open in the Family Gallery through September 2, 2025
This year we have cultivated a welcoming event in partnership with the Illinois State Museum, for Springfield’s Juneteenth Celebration. We have been grateful to have our prior exhibitions at the historic Dana Thomas House, and now we are thrilled to present the 5th anniversary of the Noir at the Illinois State Museum for Noir 5: Resilience.
Black art often explores themes of resilience, using artistic expression to depict the strength and perseverance of Black communities in the face of adversity, while also celebrating their cultural heritage and identity. Black art frequently addresses the historical and ongoing struggles faced by Black people, including slavery, discrimination, and systemic oppression, showcasing the resilience of those who have endured.
Artists use their work to celebrate and preserve Black culture, traditions, and values, fostering a sense of pride and belonging. Black art often emphasizes the importance of community and collective strength, highlighting the bonds that have helped Black people survive and thrive. Despite the challenges, Black art frequently conveys messages of hope, RESILIENCE, and the potential for positive change and transformation.
We are honored to present this year’s artists and would like to invite you to view works of art related to the theme for this year’s NOIR 5 art exhibit – RESILIENCE.
