"description": "Calling all Teachers and Educators! Studies show Adults and children alike can struggle to engage with art. Many people feel a sense of unease or disinterest when viewing art because they lack a formal background in art. If we aren’t experts, art isn’t “for us,” and we don’t have the space to form and share opinions. Using Visual Thinking Strategies in the Classroom is a free teacher professional development opportunity that seeks to dispel this notion by introducing methods of facilitating inclusive, open-ended conversations about art with students. Through this workshop, educators will leave with a skill set that invites students to gain skills such as visual literacy, communication, and collaboration. Join Curator of Art and History Education Cori Claycomb at the Illinois State Museum to learn how to make the world of art more accessible for learners of all ages. Teachers will receive 1 CPDU credit for attending.",
