Canceled: Reconsidering the American Dream Big Read - Heartland Book Club

ISM-Springfield
Big Read Flyer Poverty, class, and identity are woven together with family history to tell the story of one woman growing up in a rural Kansas farming community. Sarah Smarsh uses her book Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth to reexamine the American dream. Join the ISM as we explore what the American Dream means to us and how that might be different for others during our Big Read Book Club. Participants will read the book (book provided for the first eight people who register and request) on their own time and come together for discussion. Advance registration is required at dnr.ism.events@illinois.gov or (217) 782-6044. Space is limited. If you would like a book or have questions, please contact dnr.ism.events@illinois.gov or (217) 782-6044. Books are only available for the first 8 people who are participating in the book club that request a copy and must be picked up at the Museum. The program is in partnership with the Illinois Humanities and National Endowment for the Arts Big Read.
