Tales From the Vault: What’s New in History?

ISM-Springfield, Research & Collections Center
sampler embroidered by an Illinois schoolgirl in 1844 The Illinois State Museum is constantly adding to its permanent collections of objects and artifacts. Join Erika Holst to learn about some of the exciting new acquisitions to the History Collection and to learn the back stories behind these objects, which include a wedding quilt made for a Civil War veteran and his wife; a sampler embroidered by an Illinois schoolgirl in 1844; a stained glass window that graced the home of a prominent Springfield family in the early 20th century; and a tablecloth embroidered as a fundraiser for a now-closed Jewish temple in Danville. “Tales from the Vault” is a collaborative program hosted by the Illinois State Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum that allows the public to discover some of the treasures from these institutions’ collections.
